Seven long years

Seven years have passed since our Jace left us and we think of him each and every day. At this point Jace may have been playing little baseball and getting ready to finish the second grade and would be riding his bike or playing with his friends no doubt getting into some Thomas mischief. We wonder what foods Jace would have liked best or his favorite color or book or so many of the things that make up a young boy.

May 23rd, 2006, in the early morning all of those future things were lost as Jace slipped away from us in the early mornings hours. It was, of course, just plain wrong. 5 1/2 month old babies are not supposed to die! Jace's Daddy and I along with all his brothers, sisters and other relatives and friends will never understand how this could have happened. But it did and know we celebrate the birthdays that were missed each December 11th and we reflect each year on this day because along with the photos that's all we have of Jace.

Happy 7th Birthday Jace Owen

It is December 11th, 2012 and today, Jace Owen, you would have been 7 years old. A very Happy Birthday to you from your Grandpa.

Much has happened this year. You have a new baby brother, Sylas Hagan Thomas who was born September 15th. He looks a lot like you did.

Your Daddy and Amber are living in Minnesota with your brother Gage Owen and Brother Brayden. Your brother Andrew and his family just moved in with them from Idaho and they will all be thinking of you today and your Christmas stocking will be on display too.

I think often of all the adventures we could have had together and of my joy at watching you grow and learn the wonders of this world.

Love,
from
Grandpa

Six years have now gone by since out Jace Owen left us for the wonders of heaven. All the days and nights since May 23, 2006 have always brought loving thoughts from all of us who loved him dearly.

On the Sunday after Jace's passing in 2006, a Nascar driver named Kasey Kane (little Jace's designated favorite) took to the track in the Coke a Cola 600 race and won! We all felt that there was a connection.

Well, yesterday, on Sunday May 27th, 2012, Kasey Kane once again took to the track in the same race and WON again! Jace was riding next to Kasey and no doubt high fives were exchanged once again.

Thanks Kasey.

Happy Birthday Jace

Happy Birthday Jace. It's Papa and I wanted to tell you once again how I miss you very much. You should be 6 years old today. We should be playing catch with a football and getting ready to watch the big game on TV. You should be reading a book or riding your bike. Of course, you may be doing those things in your special place right now. At least I hope so.

I hope you know that you remain in our hearts and on our minds each and every day. Your Daddy and your brothers and sisters and Aunt and Uncles and all your cousins think of you always. Your sister, Georgia is living with your Daddy again with your brother Gage and Brayden and Amber in Minnesota and wish you were there with them right now. Your sister, Madison will visit them nest week for Christmas and your brother, Andrew is working hard in Idaho with his own family now.

I trust you are playing with the Angels.

As for me, I just want you back......

Love,
Papa

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY BROTHER

Hello Jace! Our Daddy told me that today you would have been 4 years old. I'm your little brother Gage Owen and I wanted to wish you a Happy Birthday. I'm only 9 months old so we never got to meet. Daddy says I look like you and we have the same middle name like our Grandpa and his Grandpa.

This will be my first Christmas. I wish you could be here because we would have lots of fun.

When I get older I want to hear more about you and look at all the pictures.

Sleep well Jace.............

Remembering Jace Owen Thomas

The 23rd day of May will always be a day of remembering and reflection for me. It was on the 23rd day of May in the year 2006 that we lost our precious Jace Owen in a tragic and mysterious event at his home in Splendora, Texas.

Jace was sleeping. His Mother had made the decision to place Jace in her bed and the events that followed are known only to her. The thing that is known is that Jace Owen, aged 5 months and 11 days did not wake up that morning. The coroner ruled a "natural" death most likely from S.I.D.S. The Mother apparently told her own father months later that she had rolled over on top of Jace while in a drug induced sleep and "accidently" smothered him. No matter where the real truth resides our precious Jace breathed his last sometime in the early morning of Tuesday, May 23rd 2006.

Jace Owen Thomas should be three and a half years old today. He should be talking and smiling and learning and doing all the little boys things that little boys do. Instead he is gone and we are all diminished for it.

I will always remember Jace Owen for even in his very short time among us he touched a lasting part of my heart and the heart of his Daddy and all those who knew him.

Sleep well..........

Happy Birthday Jace Owen

Today is December 11th and I want to wish our precious Jace Owen a very happy 3rd birthday from me (his grandfather), his Daddy, and his brother (Andrew), and his sisters (Madison, Georgia and Alexis).

Jace is celebrating this birthday with the Angels and won't be with us this day but he will always be in our hearts and minds.

Jace Owen Thomas lives on

Jace Owen Thomas breathed his last in the early morning of May 23rd, 2006. It surely did not have to happen. News from a friend has brought to light a heavy load to carry. The Mother of this beautiful baby has admitted that it was she (and not SIDS) that caused Jace's death by telling her own Father that she had rolled over on top of baby Jace and smothered him. When Jace's Father tried to make the Montgomery County, Texas, Sheriff's Department and the Texas CPS aware of this admission and request a new review of the case, he was essentially ignored and told that the case was closed.

Can there be justice for a precious 5 month old baby boy?

I have been watching short videos of Jace taken literally within days of his death and I look at the mysterious photographs taken in the early morning (3:44AM) of the day that Jace never saw and the official explanation of SIDS still doesn't fit because Jace was too healthy. The SIDS determination especially doesn't fit with Jace's own mother's revelation of her actions that morning. The horrific truth of her actions will continue to haunt her soul and bring endless sorrow to all our lives. Jace was only a small and fragile baby who needed and deserved the protection of his Mother and even that was denied him at the end.

JACE OWEN THOMAS - TWO YEARS GONE

732 "wake-ups" ago our precious Jace Owen did not. Since that tragic morning, my heart (and I know my son's as well), is still filled with despair and can find no relief. The photograph in this posting was taken only two to three hours before baby Jace took his last breath and left so many unanswered questions. Jace's Daddy was out of town that morning and never knew he would be denied the final good-bye. Only Jace's Mother (who took several photos early that morning) knows what really happened and the truth may never be revealed.

I have daily thoughts of Jace Owen, who would be almost two and a half years old today. In my thoughts, I see Jace running across the lawn or learning to hit a baseball or showing me his coloring book and so many things. Jace was going to be a big nascar fan and Kasey Kane was his designated driver. On the Sunday after Jace passed away Kasey won a race and we like to believe our Jace was riding along that day. Last Saturday, Kasey Kane won another race and perhaps our Jace was with him again.

So, today (as with all other days) I reflect on that darkest of mornings and then I try to cherish the very short time that Jace Owen was with us with a smile. My thoughts are also with my son, Jason and Jace Owen's Daddy as he struggles to ease the pain of a broken heart.

God's speed little man............

JASON'S COUNTRY

Here is a link to some special country sounds sung by Jason Thomas (Jace's Daddy). Jason's version of Paint Me a Birmingham is a true expression of Jason's devotion to his son, Jace, as he changed the original words of the song to his "wish" to "Paint" our Jace back into our lives once again.

The link is; http://www.mytuneslive.com/jathoma/

I hope you play it and enjoy the refreshing sounds of Jason's heart.
